"Oh give me a home,................."

Significant progress today, with our builder arriving to start work on our Cottage!!  The site was levelled by a bobcat, and theoretically now is ready for the slab to be boxed up and poured.

Theoretically??  I was previously concerned that the site would be too wet and boggy after all the rain we had in January, but now it's too dry!!  Even a foot below the surface the soil is absolutely dry, and when our traprock soil is dry it goes like talcum powder.  So  we desperately need some nice soaking rain in the next few days to settle the soil, and allow it to be formed ready for the slab.

It is very nice to see progress though................

Dreams + (Really) Hard Work =................

Turning the dreams that I've had for Whistlestop into reality is lots of hard work!!  I must say that this is not entirely unexpected though....................

Things are going very well, just lots of work, sometimes with little to show for it.  After all the rain the region had in January it has been very hot and dry since.  The ultra-long grass, which saw even the undaunted running for cover, has proven to be not as difficult as first thought.  There is now a clear track running to the site of our soon-to-be constructed Cottage.  Yes, there's LOTS more mowing (and raking) to be done in that area, but it'll happen in due course.  Lately I've been clearing some tea-tree scrub away from the sides of our main track, so our cars and the construction vehicles don't get scratched to pieces as they drive along it.  This is very much just an interim solution, as the next job is to properly widen this track ready for surfacing with de-composed granite (deco).  But every little bit helps, and I'm really enjoying working in the 'bush'.  Eventually I want this track to resemble a typical country 'road' of times past.

The garden in front of the Trainbarn site was full of large weeds, and I'm enjoying getting it ship-shape again.  Not finished yet, but getting there.  I'll post a photo of this soon, but at the moment I'm not sure how, as I am using my wife's computer!

All in all I'm very much enjoying being here, and seeing the steady progress.  It's great to see the Trainbarn Carpark area which is relatively 'finished', looking so good, which gives me encouragement (if any is needed) for the rest of the areas that I'm currently working on.

We've owned the property for about twenty years, and although I have developed it a bit during that time, there have been many times when I have thought 'one day I'll really enjoy doing ...........'.  Now that 'one day' is here, its a fantastic feeling!  Of course, it could be overwhelming as there is an absolutely enormous amount of work required, but I'm just enjoying each and every day chipping away at the long list of jobs, with a fairly clear goal in mind.

Now, back to work.................!!
